PHOSPHORIC ACID
Phosphoric Acid- is a colourless odourless phosphorus containing solid
and an inorganic compound with the chemical formula H3PO4. It is produced industrially either by a wet process or dry process mainly used in fertilizer industry, for metal surface treatment in Metallurgical Industry, Textile Industry and Food Industry.
APPLICATIONS/ USES
(1) The dominant use of phosphoric acid is for fertilizers consuming approximately 90% of production.
(2) Phosphoric Acid is used to acidify foods and beverages such as colas, jams
providing a tangy or sour taste. It is also used as a preservative.
(3) Phosphoric Acid can be used as an antirust agent.
(4) Phosphoric Acid can be used as PH adjuster in cosmetics and skin care products.
(5) Phosphoric Acid can be used as sanitizing agent in dairy, food and brewing industries.
(6) Phosphoric Acid may be used for chemical polishing of metals like aluminium etc.
SAFETY – Phosphoric Acid is not a very strong acid. However Phosphoric Acid solutions can be irritational to skin. Contact with concentrated solutions can causes severe skin burns and permanent eye damage.
