SODIUM SULPHIDE (YELLOW FLAKES)
SODIUM SULPHIDE is a chemical compound with formula Na2S. The pure crystalline form are colourless solid all though technical grade of Sodium Sulphide are generally yellow to brick red in colour. They are water soluble giving strong alkaline solutions. When exposed to moist air, Na2S emits Hydrogen Sulphide gas, an extremely toxic, inflammable & corrosive gas which smell like rotten eggs.
APPLICATIONS/ USES
1. It is primarily used in the Kraft Process in the pulp and paper industry.
(2) It is also used in the textile industry as a bleaching agent.
(3) It can also be used as dechlorinating agent.
(4) It is used in the production of rubber chemicals, sulphur dyes and other chemical compounds.
(5) It can also be used in making dyes and detergent, leather processing.
SAFETY- Sodium Sulphide is a strong alkaline and can cause chemical burns.
Acids react with Sodium Sulphide rapidly to produce Hydrogen Sulphide which is highly toxic.
